Background
Japesda Union was firstly established in 2000 as network. It consisted of 13 organizations that concern of imbalance exploitation of the natural resources and human resources in Sulawesi. Japesda actively conduct advocating in human rights and gender equality, natural resources management, investigation of natural resources exploitation, and education since the very beginning of its establishment. In February 2007, the members of Japesda agreed to change the form of the organization from network to union in order to maximize its working capacity and broaden its working network. In addition, conversing into union is a strategy to build the self-sustainabaility of the network members.
